What Average Do You Need for McMaster Nursing?

Short answer: 85 to be considered, and then it's 80% grades, 20% Casper. McMaster's OUInfo listing for Nursing I at the McMaster site says "a minimum of 85% is required for consideration", admission is by selection, and applicants are assessed on a weighting of GPA 80% and Casper 20%. CUDO publishes no entering-average table for McMaster nursing, so the 85 is the only number there is.

McMaster says: a minimum of 85% to be considered, then 80% grades and 20% Casper[1]

Required Grade 12 Courses

  • ENG4U: English
  • SBI4U: Biology
  • SCH4U: Chemistry

Plus one Grade 12 math, your choice of MHF4U, MCV4U or MDM4U. If nursing is the goal and calculus isn't, MDM4U counts the same.

The Casper test

Casper is a situational-judgement test taken online through takeCasper.com on dates it sets, and McMaster says applicants "are required to complete a Casper Test which assesses behavioural tendencies for the nursing profession." McMaster weights it at 20% of the decision, which is more than most Ontario programs tell you about their supplementary pieces.

You sit it once even if you apply to both the McMaster and Mohawk sites. Book early: the test dates are Casper's, not McMaster's.

Two sites, one degree

Nursing I runs at the McMaster site (OUAC code MN) and the Mohawk College site (MNM), both leading to the McMaster BScN. OUInfo lists them separately; this page is the McMaster site.

Why there's no table

CUDO's Fall 2022 report for McMaster leaves the nursing row blank, so we can't show you the band distribution we show for engineering or health sciences. Treat the 85 as a floor and assume the class sits above it, the way it does everywhere else we have data.

What our data doesn't have is a published average for admitted nursing students or a cutoff above the minimum. If someone quotes you one, ask where it came from.
