What MHF4U Covers

MHF4U (Advanced Functions) builds on the foundations you learned in MCR3U. The Ontario curriculum for this course includes:

Polynomial Functions

Characteristics of polynomial functions, factoring and solving polynomial equations, families of polynomials, and the factor theorem.

Rational Functions

Properties of rational functions, asymptotes, solving rational equations, and graphing.

Exponential and Logarithmic Functions

Properties of logarithms, solving exponential and logarithmic equations, and applications.

Trigonometric Functions

Radian measure, trigonometric identities, solving trig equations, and graphing sinusoidal functions with transformations.

Rates of Change

Average and instantaneous rates of change, an introduction to the concept of a limit.

Why MHF4U Is Challenging

Advanced Functions is widely considered one of the hardest courses in Ontario's Grade 12 math sequence. It moves faster than MCR3U, introduces more abstract concepts, and requires strong algebraic fluency. Many students who did well in Grade 11 Functions find themselves struggling for the first time in MHF4U. The best way to prepare is to practice with real tests and work through step-by-step solutions. That's exactly what Martian Lab is building.

Currently Available

While MHF4U is in development, MCR3U (Grade 11 Functions) is available now, with a full unit review covering every concept before the practice tests begin.
