What Average Do You Need for Western Ivey AEO?
Short answer: Ivey asks for "a low 90% average in your best Grade 12 high school courses, including English." The catch is the other half. Ivey weighs academic performance and leadership experience equally, so a 95 with nothing else on the page is not the safe bet it looks like.
Ivey says: a low 90% average in your best Grade 12 courses, including English[1]
The Numbers
| Average | Share of the entering class |
|---|---|
| 95+ | 31.2% |
| 90-94 | 45.9% |
| 85-89 | 20.9% |
| 80-84 | 2% |
Required Grade 12 Courses
- ENG4U: English
- MHF4U: Advanced Functions (free unit tests: Polynomial Functions, Polynomial Equations, Rational Functions, Trigonometric Ratios, Trigonometric Functions, Exponential & Logarithmic Functions, Combining Functions)
Only two required courses, and English counts toward the average Ivey quotes. MHF4U is the math one, so that's the mark to protect.
MHF4U builds on Grade 11 Functions, so if that's shaky, start with MCR3U.
What AEO actually is
Ivey's HBA starts in year 3. The Advanced Entry Opportunity is how you line up that spot from high school: you apply to AEO on top of your Western application, then spend your first two years in another Western program. Ivey's page lists what you need to keep the spot.
The supplemental application and the Kira video
You apply to AEO with Ivey's own supplemental application on the Ivey website. It asks for essays about your activities and leadership, your awards and extracurriculars, and references.
Then there's the video. Ivey says "all applicants are required to complete a short video interview through the Kira Talent platform." It's recorded, so practise answering out loud before the real one.
Because leadership is weighed equally with grades, this half of the application is not a tiebreaker. It's half the decision.
What these numbers mean for you
"Low 90s" is Ivey's own number, and it's the one to plan around. The CUDO table is not AEO: it's everyone Western counted in its business group in Fall 2022, 77.1% of whom came in at 90 or above.
Our data has no published average for AEO students on their own, and no number for how the essays or the video are scored. If someone quotes you an exact AEO cutoff, ask where it came from.
