What Average Do You Need for McMaster Engineering?
Short answer: 87 is the floor and the low 90s is normal. McMaster's OUInfo listing for Engineering I says "a minimum of 87% is required for consideration", admission is by selection, and the supplementary application is mandatory. In Fall 2022, 82.3% of McMaster's engineering entrants from Ontario high schools came in at 90 or above.

Required Grade 12 Courses
- ENG4U: English
- MCV4U: Calculus & Vectors (free unit tests: Limits, Derivatives, Curve Sketching, Optimization, Derivatives of Trig, Exp and Log, Geometric Vectors, Cartesian Vectors, Lines and Planes)
- SCH4U: Chemistry
- SPH4U: Physics
McMaster lists four, not five: Advanced Functions isn't on it. You still take MHF4U in practice, because MCV4U requires it before or alongside, so plan both and treat MHF4U as the mark that feeds MCV4U.
Engineering I and the twelve gateways
Everyone starts in Engineering I. On OUAC you pick one of twelve codes, from the Discovery Track (MED) to a named discipline such as Software (MES) or Mechanical (MEQ), and OUInfo lists all twelve under the same 87% minimum and a combined 1,000 seats.
iBioMed, the biomedical stream, is a separate program with its own codes and SBI4U on top of the four courses.
The Kira Talent supplementary application
McMaster's supplementary applications page says "Faculty of Engineering supplementary applications are completed through the Kira Talent platform" and that you complete it once even if you apply to several programs in the faculty. It is due January 28, 2027, for Fall 2027 entry.
Kira is recorded video and written responses on a timer. Practise answering out loud; the first take is rarely the good one.
What these numbers mean for you
87% is the minimum McMaster will look at, not where the class sits. The CUDO table is who registered: 52.1% at 95+, 30.2% at 90 to 94, 12.9% at 85 to 89, 4.5% at 80 to 84 and 0.3% at 75 to 79. The entering average was 93.4.
So an 88 clears the floor and sits with the 18% at the bottom of the class; the Kira application is where you make the case. CUDO reports every McMaster engineering program as one group, so this is the faculty, not your gateway.
