What Average Do You Need for McMaster Health Sciences?
Short answer: think of 90 as the floor and 95+ as normal. McMaster lists BHSc on OUInfo with a grade range of 90%, and in Fall 2022, 68.6% of McMaster's health professions entrants from Ontario high schools came in at 95 or above. The other thing that matters is the supplementary application.
McMaster says: a 90% grade range on OUInfo[1]
The Numbers
| Average | Share of the entering class |
|---|---|
| 95+ | 68.6% |
| 90-94 | 28.8% |
| 85-89 | 2.6% |
Required Grade 12 Courses
- ENG4U: English
- SBI4U: Biology
- SCH4U: Chemistry
Recommended
- MHF4U: Advanced Functions (free unit tests: Polynomial Functions, Polynomial Equations, Rational Functions, Trigonometric Ratios, Trigonometric Functions, Exponential & Logarithmic Functions, Combining Functions)
- MCV4U: Calculus & Vectors (free unit tests: Limits, Derivatives, Curve Sketching, Optimization, Derivatives of Trig, Exp and Log, Geometric Vectors, Cartesian Vectors, Lines and Planes)
- MDM4U: Data Management
No Grade 12 math is required. MHF4U, MCV4U and MDM4U are recommended, and your top 6 still has to come from somewhere, so a strong math mark is a good way to fill it.
MHF4U builds on Grade 11 Functions, so if that's shaky, start with MCR3U.
The supplementary application
BHSc asks for its own supplementary application: three questions you answer on top of your OUAC application. Read the current prompts on the BHSc admissions page before you start drafting.
Start early. Three questions sounds short, and that's the trap: every word is doing work, and the first draft of a short answer is almost never the good one.
What these numbers mean for you
OUInfo's grade range is the bottom of the band McMaster filed the program in, not an average of who got in. The CUDO table is who registered: 97.4% at 90 or above, and only 2.6% between 85 and 89.
CUDO reports by program group, so that table is McMaster's health professions group, not necessarily BHSc alone. What our data doesn't have is a range in McMaster's own words for BHSc, or any number on how the supplementary application is scored. If someone quotes you a cutoff, ask where it came from.
