What Average Do You Need for Ontario Tech Engineering?

Short answer: the mid-70s, and it says so. Ontario Tech's Comprehensive Engineering page lists last year's cut-off as 70% and the expected cut-off as the mid-70s, and OUInfo files every engineering discipline in the mid-70s except Nuclear, in the low 70s. In Fall 2022, 22.4% of Ontario Tech's engineering entrants from Ontario high schools came in at 90 or above, and 48.1% below 85.

Ontario Tech says: a mid-70s expected cut-off (70% last year); low 70s for Nuclear[1][2][3]

Required Grade 12 Courses

Same five for every Ontario Tech engineering program. English needs at least 60%, and the math and science prerequisites need a combined average of 70% or better with no grade below 60%.

MHF4U builds on Grade 11 Functions, so if that's shaky, start with MCR3U.

Which range is yours

Ontario Tech lists an expected cut-off on each program page. Comprehensive Engineering (OUAC code DEU) shows last year's cut-off as 70% and the expected cut-off as the mid-70s, and Ontario Tech's OUInfo listings put Automotive, Electrical, Energy, Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Software, Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things Engineering in the mid-70s and Nuclear Engineering in the low 70s.

Ontario Tech says admission is competitive, the specific average or standing required varies from year to year, and possession of the minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance.

Comprehensive Engineering and the majors

Comprehensive Engineering is a first-year entry only: Ontario Tech says students will not be permitted to remain in the comprehensive program after Year 1 and must apply to change into one of the majors, and that changing programs is competitive with no guarantee of a specific major. If you know your discipline, apply to it directly; the requirements are the same.

No supplementary application is listed for any engineering program, so the average is the decision.

What these numbers mean for you

A published floor in the mid-70s and a class with an 84.9 average fit together: the bar is the lowest of any engineering faculty on this site, and the class is the widest. The CUDO table is who registered: 6.0% at 95+, 16.4% at 90 to 94, 29.5% at 85 to 89, 28.7% at 80 to 84, 15.9% at 75 to 79 and 3.5% at 70 to 74.

An 80 is five points above the expected cut-off and inside the band 28.7% of the class sat in. CUDO reports engineering as one group, so this is the faculty, not your discipline.
