What Average Do You Need for Queen's Engineering?

Short answer: plan on low 90s. Queen's lists Smith Engineering's common first year on OUInfo with a grade range in the high 80s, and the class that registered in Fall 2022 sat above it: 89.7% of Queen's engineering entrants from Ontario high schools came in at 90 or above, half of them between 90 and 94.

Queen's says: a high 80s grade range on OUInfo[1][2]

Required Grade 12 Courses

Queen's names the same five for the common first year and every direct-entry stream. Two are math and two are science, so four of your top 6 are decided for you.

MHF4U builds on Grade 11 Functions, so if that's shaky, start with MCR3U.

Common first year and direct entry

Most applicants choose the common first year (OUAC code QE) and pick a discipline at the end of it. Queen's also takes direct-entry applicants into Chemical, Civil, Computer, Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics and Robotics, and Mining Engineering, with the same five courses.

The requirements page lists no supplementary application for engineering, and OUInfo mentions one only in passing. Read the instructions in your applicant portal before deciding anything is optional.

What these numbers mean for you

High 80s on OUInfo is the band Queen's filed the program in, not an average of who got in. The CUDO table is who registered: 39.7% at 95+, 50.0% at 90 to 94, 8.8% at 85 to 89 and 1.4% at 80 to 84. The entering average was 93.5.

Unlike Waterloo or UofT, the middle of this class sits in the 90 to 94 band, so a 92 is a normal Queen's engineering average rather than a stretch. An 88 is inside the posted range and with the 10% at the bottom. CUDO reports by program group, so this is Queen's engineering as a whole.
