What Average Do You Need for UofT Engineering?

Short answer: it depends which program you pick. UofT Engineering publishes two ranges. Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Engineering Science are "low to mid 90's". Chemical, Civil, Industrial, Materials, Mechanical and Mineral are "high 80's to low 90's". Across the whole faculty, 99.4% of the Fall 2022 entering class from Ontario high schools came in at 90 or above.

UofT says: high 80s to mid-90s, depending on the program[1][2]

Required Grade 12 Courses

Every UofT Engineering program asks for the same five, so you don't have to pick your program before you pick your courses.

MHF4U builds on Grade 11 Functions, so if that's shaky, start with MCR3U.

Which range is yours

UofT splits its programs into two tiers on its admissions FAQ, and the tier is the first thing to check.

Low to mid 90s: Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Science.

High 80s to low 90s: Chemical, Civil, Industrial, Materials, Mechanical and Mineral Engineering.

TrackOne, UofT's undeclared first year, isn't in either line. On OUInfo, UofT lists its grade range as 90%.

The Online Student Profile

UofT calls its process "broad-based": it "takes into account applicants' academic and non-academic achievements as demonstrated in the Online Student Profile." The FAQ adds that the committee uses "all components of the Online Student Profile and your complete academic record."

One part of it, the Personal Profile, "takes about 30 minutes to complete online." Thirty minutes is not much, so go in knowing which two or three things outside class you want them to remember.

What these numbers mean for you

The published ranges are where UofT starts reading. The CUDO table is who registered, across every engineering program at once: 81.5% at 95+, 17.9% at 90 to 94, and 0.6% from 85 to 89.

That table can't tell Mineral apart from EngSci, because CUDO reports the faculty as one group. Read it as the whole faculty's entering class, not your program's. Aim at the high 80s tier with an 88 and you're inside UofT's posted range but below almost everyone the faculty registered, so the profile is where you make your case.
