What Average Do You Need for uOttawa Engineering?

Short answer: 80, or 85 for Mechanical and Software. uOttawa publishes a minimum admission average per program rather than a range: 80% for Chemical, Civil, Computer, Electrical and Biomedical Mechanical Engineering, 85% for Mechanical and Software. It is the lowest published bar of any engineering faculty on this site, and the entering class reflects it: 42.7% of uOttawa's Fall 2022 engineering entrants from Ontario high schools came in at 90 or above, and 24.5% below 85.

uOttawa says: a minimum admission average of 80%, or 85% for Mechanical and Software[1][2][3]

Required Grade 12 Courses

Chemical, Civil, Computer, Electrical and Mechanical want all five, with a combined 70% or better across the math and science prerequisites. Software is looser: ENG4U, MHF4U, MCV4U and one of SBI4U, SCH4U, SPH4U or ICS4U. Biomedical Mechanical adds SBI4U.

MHF4U builds on Grade 11 Functions, so if that's shaky, start with MCR3U.

Minimums, not ranges

uOttawa's number is a floor. Meet it and the prerequisites and you are eligible, but "meeting these minimums does not guarantee admission". The average is your top six 4U, 4M or DU grades including the prerequisites, and when a program requires math, uOttawa "always consider[s] the highest level of mathematics you've attempted".

No supplementary application, interview or profile is listed for any engineering program, so the admission average is the decision.

What these numbers mean for you

A minimum of 80 and a class with 42.7% at 90 or above are consistent: the floor is low and the class is wide. The CUDO table is who registered: 12.3% at 95+, 30.4% at 90 to 94, 32.7% at 85 to 89, 21.1% at 80 to 84 and 3.4% at 75 to 79. The entering average was 88.8.

An 84 is above the floor for most programs and inside the band a fifth of the class sat in; for Mechanical or Software it is below the minimum. CUDO reports uOttawa's engineering as one group, so this is the faculty, not your program.
