What Average Do You Need for Waterloo Computer Science?
Short answer: Waterloo says it selects Computer Science students from the low to mid-90s. The class that actually showed up sat higher than that. In Fall 2022, 94% of Waterloo's computer science entrants from Ontario high schools came in with a 95 or above.
Waterloo says: low to mid-90s[1]
The Numbers
| Average | Share of the entering class |
|---|---|
| 95+ | 94% |
| 90-94 | 4% |
| 85-89 | 1.5% |
| 80-84 | 0.4% |
Required Grade 12 Courses
- ENG4U: English
- MHF4U: Advanced Functions (free unit tests: Polynomial Functions, Polynomial Equations, Rational Functions, Trigonometric Ratios, Trigonometric Functions, Exponential & Logarithmic Functions, Combining Functions)
- MCV4U: Calculus & Vectors (free unit tests: Limits, Derivatives, Curve Sketching, Optimization, Derivatives of Trig, Exp and Log, Geometric Vectors, Cartesian Vectors, Lines and Planes)
Recommended
- ICS4U: Computer Science
Two of your three required courses are math. MCV4U builds on MHF4U, so plan the order early.
MHF4U builds on Grade 11 Functions, so if that's shaky, start with MCR3U.
The Admission Information Form
Waterloo's program page says it plainly: "The Admission Information Form is required for admission." That's the AIF, and it sits next to your marks in the decision. It's also why Waterloo's range says "individual selection" instead of naming a cutoff.
Don't treat it as a formality. With almost everyone admitted sitting at 95+, your marks get you into the pile and the AIF is one of the few places you can stand out in it.
What these numbers mean for you
There are two numbers here and they answer different questions. "Low to mid-90s" is Waterloo telling you where it starts looking. The CUDO table is who registered: 94% at 95+, 4% at 90 to 94, and under 2% below 90.
So a 92 is inside the range Waterloo names, but it puts you below nearly everyone in that entering class. A 96 puts you with the crowd, not ahead of it. CUDO reports by program group, so this is the group Waterloo counts its computer science students in, not CS on its own.
The degree is a BCS with co-op. ICS4U isn't required, but Waterloo lists it as recommended.

Waterloo Computer Science FAQ
What average do you need for Waterloo Computer Science?+
Waterloo says it selects from the low to mid-90s. In Fall 2022, 94% of its computer science entrants from Ontario high schools had a 95 or higher, so a mid-90s average is where most admitted students actually were.
Is a 90 enough for Waterloo CS?+
A 90 is at the bottom of the range Waterloo names. In the Fall 2022 entering class, only 4% came in between 90 and 94 and 94% came in at 95+, so a 90 leans hard on a strong AIF.
What courses do you need for Waterloo Computer Science?+
ENG4U, MHF4U and MCV4U. ICS4U is recommended, not required.
Does Waterloo Computer Science need a supplementary application?+
Yes. The Admission Information Form (AIF) is required for admission to Computer Science.
