What Average Do You Need for Western Engineering?

Short answer: high 80s to low 90s. That's the admission average range Western publishes for Engineering, with the note that "some students fall above and some fall below". In Fall 2022, 74.7% of Western's engineering entrants from Ontario high schools came in at 90 or above, and the biggest band was 90 to 94.

Western says: high 80s to low 90s[1]

Required Grade 12 Courses

Same five as Waterloo, UofT, Queen's and TMU, so one set of Grade 12 courses keeps every Ontario engineering option open.

MHF4U builds on Grade 11 Functions, so if that's shaky, start with MCR3U.

One code, one first year

Western Engineering is a single OUAC code (EE) with a common first year; you choose a discipline for second year. The range and the courses are the same whichever one you have in mind.

The Casper test

Western's requirements page is blunt: "You must complete the Casper test. Register and take the test as soon as possible. It can take three weeks for Western to get your results, and you can't receive an offer of admission without them."

Casper is a situational-judgement test, not an essay about you. There is little to polish, but there is a deadline to miss, and three weeks of lag in front of it.

What these numbers mean for you

The range is Western's. The CUDO table is who registered: 23.4% at 95+, 51.3% at 90 to 94, 24.3% at 85 to 89 and 1.0% below 85. The entering average was 91.8, so a 91 is the middle of this class, not the edge.

An 88 is inside Western's range and inside the band a quarter of the class sat in. CUDO reports Western's main-campus engineering as one group, so this is the faculty, not a discipline.
